6 Tips for Selling Your Home in Summer

Selling your home in summer might seem a little easier than doing so in the winter. The truth is, while home sales tend to be higher during the warmer months, your list of things to do to get your home ready for selling can be a lot longer in summer.

To show you what we mean, here’s just an overview of tips for selling your home in the summer.

1.  Check Your Curb Appeal

You’ll notice that many of these tips relate to doing things to the outside of your home. You know that curb appeal is the initial impression a prospective buyer has of your home from the street. In winter, you may be able to get away with a few things – You can never pile snow in an attractive way. But not in summer. You need to make sure your entire home and property look as good as they can. We’ll cover other particulars in subsequent points below, but you should start with the house itself.

Try to take a look at your home from the street as if you’re seeing it for the first time. Look for things that you’d like to improve, and things you should improve. Be ready to do things like clean the windows (which helps your interior décor too), paint the exterior, reseal the driveway and repair walkways.

2. Spruce Up Your Landscaping

If you don’t already use a professional landscaper, it can pay to hire one if your landscape needs lots of attention. Thing’s like overhanging branches, gardens that lack colour, hedges that need trimming, and weedy, unhealthy lawns can be a turn off for buyers who are likely to spend more time looking at you home from the outside in the summer.

3. Work on Your Outdoor Living Spaces

Buyers will definitely be checking decks, patios, pools, gazebos and any other backyard features of your home. Think about power washing decks and patios, restaining decks and gazebos and keeping your pool water crystal clear and free of toys and clutter.

4. Keep Your Home Cool

Especially on scorching summer days, a pleasantly cool home makes the right impression.

5. Do All the Things You Would Do to Sell Your Home Regardless of the Time of Year

This includes all the well-known devices for helping your home sell faster and for a higher price. Declutter, get it staged, fix everything that can be fixed, and give it a coat of paint using neutral colours.

6. Ask Your Selling Agent
